How To Update the theme

Omega comes with a built in Theme Updaterthat makes updating the theme very easy! (since Theme Version > 1.8) View the video below:

For versions of the theme < 1.8 you can use the Envato Toolkit Plugin, as described in the next section

Envato Toolkit Plugin

Updating is easy if you use the Envato Wordpress Toolkit. For verions of Omega < 1.8, this is the way we recommend you update your theme.

Instructions

Here are the step by step instructions on how to update your theme, if you are using the Envato Wordpress Toolkit:

Step 1 - Install the Envato Toolkit Plugin - goto Appearance/ Install Pluginsand Install and Activate the Envato Toolkit Plugin.

Step 2 - Click the Envato Toolkitmenu on the admin sidebar.

Step 3 - Enter your Envato Marketplace username and API Key. If you don't have an API key read the create an api key section

Step 4 - Locate the theme you wish to update, if there is an update you will see a notice below it which contains a link that says update automaticallyclick this link.

Create a ThemeForest API Key

To get your copy of the theme follow the instructions below.

Step 1 - Log in to your themeforest account and then goto the account menuand click the Settingsoption from the dropdown ThemeForest Settings

Step 2 - Click the API Keys menu button at the bottom of the left side menu ThemeForest API Key

Step 3 - Enter a label for your API key and then click the Generate API Keybutton

Manual Update

If you want to manually update the theme without using the Envato Toolkit Plugin you will need to do the following.

Step 1 - Switch to another theme - goto Appearance/ Themesand select activate on another theme.

Step 2 - Hover over the Omega screenshot and click the Theme Detailsbutton

Step 3 - Click the Deletebutton in the bottom right hand corner of the popup

Step 4 - Follow the installing the theme instructions to re-install the latest version of the theme.

Updating Bundled Plugins

Updating the theme plugins is now a piece of cake( since theme version 1.8 )! Follow the instructions on the video to see for yourself:

Updating Visual composer

This applies to theme versions < 1.8. For versions >= 1.8, see this section

In order to update Visual Composerplugin follow these steps:

  • Go to Plugins and delete the WPBakery Visual Composerplugin.
  • Once the plugin is deleted, go to Appearance->Install Plugins and install the plugin again.
  • Now that you have the updated version of the plugin, activate it and you are done!

Updating Revolution Slider Manually

If you wish to update Revolution Slider manually, follow these steps

  1. Locate the plugin from the theme folder, inside inc/plugins. The name of the file is revslider.zip.
  2. Click on the Revolutin Slider menu on the admin sidebar. Scroll down to the bottom of the next page and click on the Manual Plugin Updatebutton.
  3. Upload the file that you downloaded(revslider.zip) and click on Update Sliderfrom the window that pops up.

Your previous data will not be lost.

Updating Layer Slider

This applies to theme versions < 1.8. For versions >= 1.8, see this section
In order to update the Layer Slider plugin you need to follow these steps

  • Download the latest version of the theme and locate the layersliderwp-*.*.*.zip. The file should be in the inc/plugins folder.
  • Go to LayerSlider WP menu from the admin sidebar.
  • Export your sliders from the Export Slidersmetabox(might not be necessary, but to be sure that you will not lose your work)
  • Uninstall the previous Layerslider from the Plugins menu.
  • Reinstall the newly downloaded version of the plugin from Plugins->Add New. Upload the .zip file that you downloaded previously.
  • If your sliders have been deleted, reimport them from the LayerSlider WP menu from the admin sidebar, from the Import Slidersmetabox.
